Christian Brothers Academy is a Lasallian Catholic college preparatory school in Syracuse, New York, welcoming young men and women from diverse faiths and cultures. Founded in 1900 and grounded in the Roman Catholic Church's religious tradition, inspired by the educational vision of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the school serves approximately 750 students in grades seven through twelve. POSITION DESCRIPTION
The CBA President leads an Executive Team comprising the Principal, the Vice President for Advancement, the Vice President for Mission, the Vice President for Enrollment Management, and the Vice President for Finance Operations.
The Vice President of Finance and Operations is responsible for managing all fiscal services at CBA, which include the annual budget, accounting, budgetary reporting, cash management, payroll, insurance, accounts payable, tuition, and financial aid. Additionally, the Vice President oversees the Finance Department, transportation services, building operations, food services, cleaning services, and school maintenance. This role also involves direct supervision of the Accounts Payable Assistant, Accounts Receivable Assistant, Payroll Assistant, and the Director of Maintenance and Facilities.
The Vice President of Finance and Operations will ensure compliance with all government regulations and CBA policies and procedures related to fiscal management. This position reports to the President and requires close collaboration with the CBA President and the Chair of the CBA Board of Trustees Finance Committee. The Vice President serves on several committees of the Board of Trustees, including Finance, Building and Grounds, Technology, Enrollment Management, and HR. Furthermore, the Vice President of Finance and Operations participates in the quarterly meetings of the CBA Board of Trustees.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
● Prepare and present the annual budget to the school President and Finance Committee for approval.
● Provide financial information to the school President and the Finance Committee monthly.
● Reconcile bank statements each month and review all statements prepared by staff members.
● Review all general ledger activity monthly to ensure proper accounting and budgetary control.
● Ensure all items needed for the year-end audit have been completed and provided to the audit firm before the engagement date.
● Process all financial aid applications, determine suitable awards, and manage the financial aid letters to parents.
● Update and manage the monthly year-end forecasts for expenses and revenue, reporting any variances to the school President and the Finance Committee.
● Prepare and allocate budget for capital projects.
● Keep the fixed asset ledger updated.
● Ensure effective cash management, including prompt and accurate deposits.
● Keep endowment-tracking spreadsheets for all endowed scholarships.
● Oversee banking and investment relationships for the school.
● Oversee the collection of tuition, cafeteria purchases, book purchases, field trip payments, and all other student payments.
● Process all activities related to campaigns. Report cash payments, loan processing, recordkeeping, and summary reporting to the school President and Finance Committee.
● Oversee budgetary control. Ensure that department heads authorize expenditures and remain within the budget. Investigate variances and report them to the school President and the Finance Committee.
● Collaborate with the Facilities Director to plan all summer building and grounds projects for the President's approval.
● Prepare yearly mandated service reports for New York State reimbursement.
● Prepare annual reports for the New York State MST Grant.
● Prepare annual reports for reimbursement associated with the New York State Safety and Security Grant.
● Collaborate with the Vice President of Enrollment Management to maintain school enrollment numbers and preserve the retention report.
TRAITS AND CHARACTERISTICS
The successful candidate for the Vice President of Finance and Operations of Christian Brothers Academy will be an individual who possesses these essential and preferred qualities; at a minimum:

EDUCATION AND CAREER PATH LEADING TO THIS POSITION
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
● Master’s degree in business or accounting is strongly preferred; Financial statement preparation and analysis experience is preferred.
● Certification as a School Business Leader from any state is preferred.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Start Date: Assume responsibilities Spring 2025
Salary/Benefits: Salary range of $90,000 to $115,000 based upon experience with competitive benefits, including tuition benefit; competitive retirement benefits.
