Production & Maintenance Precision Metals Fabricator - Corning Valley

Required Skills/Experience Education:

  • Two-year degree in welding and fabrication OR,
  • Equivalent degree in a relevant field-of-study or High School Graduate (or equivalent) with two (2) years of equivalent GTAW (TIG) welding, metal fabrication and blue print reading experience in an industrial work setting

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • At least two year of welding and metal fabrication experience.
  • Documented and demonstrated welding and fabrication skills in accordance with AWS, API and ASME
  • SolidWorks knowledge.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of weld and material characterization techniques.

Scope of Position:

  • In this position, employees will work as Apprentices for two years to learn the skills required to become Journeymen Precision Metals Fabricators
  • The primary function is to apply welding skills for the fabrication of metal components used in Corning’s glass manufacturing process. This role requires base knowledge of metals, welding, and fabrication techniques, weld inspection, etc. Collaborative interaction with engineering and operations leadership is required.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in welding and fabrication of metal components and systems.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of metal preparation and proper welding techniques.
    • Prepares metal for subsequent process steps through cutting, melting, rolling, laser etc.
    • Use of a multitude of fabricating equipment (hand tools, drill press, brake press, lathes, bead roll, saws etc.) for metal and refractory components.
  • Inspect welds using visual, destructive, and non-destructive testing methods.
  • Develop solutions to material joining problems using knowledge of the characteristics of materials, industrial inspection techniques, material joining processes, and manufacturing standards.
  • Collaborate with the designers and workforce to improve the components quality and the efficiencies of fabrication.
  • Analyze and solve process quality issues using scientific principles and methodology.
  • Contribute to an industrial design team in the design, redesign, and upgrade of products to achieve improved manufacturability, aesthetics, and functions.
  • Communicate in a professional and supportive manner while working with all levels of the organization.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must supply own transportation; plants are as far as 15 miles apart. No relocation assistance.
  • Travel should be less than 25% including international on-site installation and troubleshooting.

 

Work Hours:

  • Varies by plant; ability to work holidays and weekends are a must.

 

Required Skills:

  • Support of Corning’s safety initiatives, application of industrial safety standards and the identification of health hazards associated with metal fabrication in an industrial setting.
  • A welding evaluation and sample will be required.
  • Interpretation of technical documentation (e.g. Specifications, schematics, design prints, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to fabricate metal components and systems from design prints.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact positively and constructively with the workforce, customers, and staff.

Our new employees will go through a 90-day probationary period. Production and Maintenance employees are represented by USW Local 1000. 

 

The following information is relative to Production and Maintenance employment at Corning Incorporated in the Corning, New York Valley: Qualified candidates must be at least 18 years of age. The employment process for all Production and Maintenance positions at Corning Incorporated in the Corning Valley begins once you attach your resume and submit a completed application. The next step in the process will be an orientation at a local venue to be determined. The orientation will be followed by a series of tests and interviews conducted by Corning Incorporated employees. Upon successful completion of all the above, the next step will be background checks and a medical exam, to include a physical assessment and a drug test.

Qualified candidates are included in a pool for Precision Metals Fabricator positions and will be called upon as openings occur.

The starting pay for this position is ​$32.96 hourly rate. Compensation and benefits available for this position are dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
