Job Description

Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Manager oversees a broad spectrum of marketing and communication initiatives. This role focuses on creating and managing content for the college's official social media accounts, guiding unofficial accounts, producing video content, developing press releases, and creating materials for digital advertising, event coverage, and website updates. The manager ensures alignment with the college’s branding and strategic goals.

Essential Job Functions

Social Media Management

  • Develops, schedules, and posts original, engaging content across official social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.).
  • Monitors and responds to inquiries and comments on official accounts.
  • Optimizes online review platforms (e.g., Google Reviews, Glassdoor, Nextdoor) to enhance the college’s reputation.
  • Produces monthly analytics dashboards highlighting channel growth, engagement trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Partners with owners of unofficial accounts to promote best practices and brand consistency.

Press Releases and Media Relations

  • Drafts, edits, and distributes press releases to promote college events, announcements, and achievements.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, coordinating responses and interviews as needed.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with local and regional media outlets to ensure consistent and positive coverage of the college.

Digital Production

  • Designs and manages digital collateral, including website updates, digital signage, and social media templates.
  • Creates original motion graphics to support digital and social media marketing campaigns.
  • Partners with the Executive Leadership Team on digital design and branding initiatives.

Communications

  • Collaborates with the President to oversee the college’s internal and external branding strategies.
  • Coordinates and manages workflow for online calendar submissions and related social media postings.
  • Writes and edits content for various platforms, including the Luna Light e-newsletter (published twice monthly) and the Luna Newsroom.
  • Manages website content and ensures search engine optimization.
  • Reviews promotional materials from internal stakeholders to ensure brand compliance.
  • Represents the college on the Collaborative for Higher Education Shared Services Communications team and other external committees as needed.

Public Records Requests

  • Serves as the primary contact for handling public records requests, ensuring compliance with the New Mexico Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) and other applicable regulations.
  • Coordinates accurate and timely responses, maintains thorough records of all requests, and upholds transparency standards.

Other Duties

  • Supervises employees or contractors supporting the college’s marketing and communications efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with the department's mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in marketing communications.
  • Proven experience in content creation, editing, press release development, and managing social media channels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual or bicultural proficiency (Spanish and English).
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies across various social identities (ethnic, racial, religious, economic, and educational backgrounds, as well as abilities, sexual orientation, and gender expression).
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities, handle multiple tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, Premiere Pro, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
