Job Description

ACCIONA Construction USA part of the SR 400 Peach Partners consortium, have been awarded the contract to design and construct the SR 400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta, Georgia. This $4.6 billion project, awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), is a key public-private partnership aimed at addressing congestion on a major highway in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Manager to oversee all Health and Safety (H&S) activities for this significant construction project. The successful candidate will ensure adherence to all H&S regulations, documentation, and legal requirements while fostering a strong safety culture within the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and manage an effective H&S Management System across the project.
  • Ensure H&S policies and procedures are communicated, maintained, and compliant with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Lead the H&S team, providing coaching and mentorship.
  • Promote a safety culture among all project personnel, encouraging proactive participation in safety initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain an effective H&S Management System for the project.
  • Provide tailored safety training and orientations.
  • Create and deliver training programs for supervisors and staff based on the Health and Safety Manual.
  • Assess project plans and sites prior to work commencement to identify safety-related hazards.
  • Conduct inspections of active project sites to evaluate working conditions and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, such as inspectors, subcontractors, and the public.
  • Collaborate with project management and field personnel to address and resolve safety-related challenges.
  • Partner with senior management to develop emergency response plans.
  • Ensure that both subcontractors and employees adhere to established safety protocols.
  • Investigate incidents to determine root causes and formulate corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Represent the project at stakeholder meetings and other forums regarding workplace health and safety issues.
  • Other duties as related to the role.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in a related field preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in a H&S management role.
  • Experience in construction / large infrastructure projects.
  • Strong ability to produce clear and comprehensive plans, procedures, and manuals.
  • Capability to work independently and lead a team effectively.
  • Thorough understanding of local and international H&S standards, regulations, and practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
