Job Title: Corporate Quality Director

Location: Roanoke, VA

Department: Technical Team

Reports To: Vice President of Technical

Job Summary:

The Corporate Quality Director will lead and direct the overall quality strategy across Virginia Transformer’s multiple manufacturing facilities. This role ensures that all products meet customer and regulatory requirements while driving continuous improvement in quality systems, processes, and culture. The Director will oversee quality assurance, quality control, and compliance, collaborating closely with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to deliver world-class transformer products.

Key Responsibilities:

Quality Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and implement a corporate-wide quality vision, strategy, and objectives aligned with business goals.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing quality team across all manufacturing sites.
  • Promote a strong culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Process & System Oversight

  • Own and evolve the corporate Quality Management System (QMS); ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant standards.
  • Establish and enforce standard quality practices and inspection criteria across all plants.
  • Oversee internal and external audits, corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs), and customer complaint resolution.

Customer & Compliance Focus

  • Serve as the voice of the customer in quality discussions, ensuring product reliability and satisfaction.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies, auditors, and key customers as needed for quality matters.
  • Ensure adherence to product certifications, safety standards, and technical specifications.

Performance Monitoring & Improvement

  • Analyze quality data (e.g., yield, scrap, rework, returns) to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Lead root cause analyses and drive implementation of systemic corrective actions.
  • Implement robust metrics and reporting to drive accountability and visibility across the organization.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain to develop and launch new products with quality built in from the start.
  • Collaborate with Procurement to qualify and monitor supplier performance.
  • Support training programs to increase quality awareness and technical skills across departments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive quality leadership in a manufacturing environment (preferably electrical or heavy industrial).
  • Strong knowledge of ISO standards, quality tools (Six Sigma, APQP, FMEA, etc.), and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Demonstrated experience leading quality across multi-site operations.
  • Effective communicator with strong leadership, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Black Belt, or ISO Lead Auditor a plus.

Travel:

Approximately 25–40% to domestic and international manufacturing sites.
