Curriculum Specialist

AGENCY OVERVIEW:

Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) has served the San Francisco Bay Area for 175 years. The JFCS Holocaust Center is a primary resource for Holocaust and genocide education in California. Through a deeper understanding of Jewish history, the Holocaust, and patterns of genocide, our work inspires moral courage and social responsibility in future generations.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Holocaust Center, the Curriculum Specialist is integral to the planning and implementation of educational programs of the JFCS Holocaust Center throughout California. A strategic focus of this position is deepening the impact of the California Teachers Collaborative for Holocaust and Genocide Education. The Curriculum Specialist collaborates closely with the Associate Director to ensure that teachers within the collaborative are well supported to meet curriculum implementation expectations and expand the reach and impact of the state-wide initiative.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Salary Range: $100,000-$115,000 (depending on experience)
  • Employment Type: Full-time, exempt with benefits
  • Employer 403(b) retirement match plus additional employer contribution (subject to eligibility)

  • 16 holidays (10 federal and up to 6 Jewish holidays), annually
  • 3 weeks of vacation and 2 weeks of sick leave, annually

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work in partnership with the Associate Director on the strategic planning and scaling of the California Teachers Collaborative
  • Provide individual coaching and support to guide teachers in their implementation of standards-based lessons and resources developed by the California Teachers Collaborative
  • Plan, design and facilitate professional development workshops for educators on topics of Holocaust and genocide education in partnership with the Director of Education
  • Curate and develop the digital library of the California Teachers
  • Collaborative in partnership with the Associate Director and Director of Education
  • Review curriculum developed for the California Teachers Collaborative and guide the revision process to ensure that published lessons and resources align to California Common Core Standards and meet the curriculum guidelines of the California Teachers Collaborative
  • Build relationships with Educator Leadership Council members in partnership with the Director of Education
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as may be assigned by the Associate Director of the Holocaust Center, the Director of the Holocaust Center, and executive leadership

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of three years of teaching at the secondary level
  • Credentialed teacher with strong experience in Holocaust and genocide education
  • Knowledge of Jewish history, tradition, community and culture
  • Prior experience developing the capacity of teachers in a leadership, coaching/mentorship, or professional development role
  • Experience in curriculum development desired
  • Technical skills including intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suites, and familiarity with the functions and features with Zoom and other streaming platforms
  • Previous experience in Asana and Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to work onsite during business hours and able to work occasional weekends and evening hours to support program activities (required)
    Ability to travel 5-6 times a year throughout California to meet with teachers, visit schools, and attend educational conferences. If driving own vehicle, must have a valid CA driver’s license and proof of liability insurance, as a well as access to a reliable vehicle
